                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-2  recognize the Salvation Army as it dedicates its new Adult
    1-3  Rehabilitation Center facilities in Austin; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The new building, which will provide 118 beds, will
    1-5  almost double the Adult Rehabilitation Center's ability to help
    1-6  people become useful and productive members of society; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center has
    1-8  been serving the Austin area for the past 11 years, assisting those
    1-9  whose lives have become unmanageable due to alcohol and drug
   1-10  dependence; in 1992, the center served over 700 persons; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The Adult Rehabilitation Center seeks to instill
   1-12  spiritual values in its clients and to promote acceptance of work
   1-13  therapy which promotes feelings of self-worth and personal
   1-14  satisfaction; the program succeeds in attaining these goals at no
   1-15  financial cost to the community; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Founded in 1865, the Salvation Army is an
   1-17  international religious and charitable organization which strives
   1-18  to help clients remain out of jails and prisons, obtain a better
   1-19  education, learn a trade, and become contributing citizens again;
   1-20  and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Guided by a love for God and a practical concern for
   1-22  the physical needs of the human race, the Salvation Army does not
   1-23  discriminate among individuals because of race, creed, color, sex,
    2-1  or age; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Over the years, the Salvation Army has ministered
    2-3  faithfully to the spiritual needs of innumerable persons and has
    2-4  succeeded in rescuing thousands of people from lives of drug and
    2-5  alcohol addiction; this noteworthy organization is indeed worthy of
    2-6  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-8  hereby commend and congratulate the Salvation Army on the opening
    2-9  of its new Adult Rehabilitation Center; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
   2-11  Salvation Army as an expression of highest regard from the Texas
   2-12  Legislature  with all best wishes for continued success in the
   2-13  future.
