SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to
1-2 join with Texas A&M University in recognizing the 28 years of
1-3 dedicated service of Dr. Leslie M. Reid who helped start the
1-4 Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences at Texas A&M
1-5 University in 1965; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Through his 20-year tenure as head of the department
1-7 he recruited a highly respected faculty who helped to develop a
1-8 program that has achieved national and international preeminence;
1-9 and
1-10 WHEREAS, He has served the park and recreation profession
1-11 through his support of the Journal of Leisure Research and as a
1-12 founding member and past president of the Academy of Leisure
1-13 Science, a fellow in the Texas Academy of Science, past president
1-14 of the Society of Park and Recreation Educators, and a fellow in
1-15 the Society of Travel and Tourism Educators; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Dr. Reid has served to advance knowledge about parks
1-17 and recreation through the publication of more than 50 papers,
1-18 articles, and reports; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Through his contributions to parks and recreation
1-20 Dr. Reid has received numerous awards and honors including the
1-21 establishment this year of the Leslie M. Reid Distinguished Alumni
1-22 Award in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences at
1-23 Texas A&M University; and
2-1 WHEREAS, In addition to his dedication to Texas A&M
2-2 University, he and his wife, Dorothy, have devoted themselves to
2-3 raising two fine children, John and Michelle; and
2-4 WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate that the Texas Senate
2-5 recognize his numerous contributions to the university and the
2-6 State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
2-7 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
2-8 hereby express sincere appreciation to Leslie M. Reid for his 28
2-9 years of service to the people of the State of Texas, Texas A&M
2-10 University, the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism
2-11 Sciences, and the students of Texas A&M University; and, be it
2-12 further
2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for this
2-14 esteemed educator as an expression of highest regard from the Texas
2-15 Legislature.
