No. 60 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to 1-2 join with Texas A&M University in recognizing the 25 years of 1-3 dedicated service of Dr. Louis Hodges who joined the faculty of the 1-4 Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences in 1968; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Through his tenure at Texas A&M University this 1-6 dedicated educator has committed himself to teaching by serving as 1-7 the undergraduate advisor, mentor, big brother, surrogate parent, 1-8 and friend for more than 1,000 Aggies in the Department of 1-9 Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences; and 1-10 WHEREAS, He was one of the first faculty members to recognize 1-11 the importance of teaching microcomputer applications to students 1-12 and developed the first Micro-Computer Applications in Renewable 1-13 Natural Resources course at Texas A&M University; and 1-14 WHEREAS, For his commitment to undergraduate teaching Dr. 1-15 Hodges has received numerous awards and honors including the 1-16 prestigious Association of Former Students Distinguished Teaching 1-17 Award in 1991; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Dr. Hodges has brought honor and recognition to 1-19 himself and to Texas A&M University for his long service and 1-20 contributions to the American Camping Association, Christian 1-21 Camping International, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, and 1-22 the American Red Cross; and 1-23 WHEREAS, In addition to his dedication to Texas A&M 2-1 University, he and his wife, Lucia, have devoted themselves to 2-2 raising three fine daughters, Rachelle, Danielle, and Gabrielle; 2-3 and 2-4 WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate that the Texas Legislature 2-5 recognize his numerous contributions to the university and the 2-6 State of Texas; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 2-8 hereby express sincere appreciation to Dr. Louis Hodges for his 25 2-9 years of service to the people of the State of Texas, Texas A&M 2-10 University, the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism 2-11 Sciences, and the students of Texas A&M University; and, be it 2-12 further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for this 2-14 esteemed educator as an expression of highest regard from the Texas 2-15 Legislature.
