No. 62 73R7448 SRD-F CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Texas is a state blessed with abundant and varied 1-2 natural resources, but no resource as precious as our children; and 1-3 WHEREAS, The Capitol grounds contain many statues, monuments, 1-4 and exhibits that pay tribute to the people, ideals, and events 1-5 that Texans hold dear; these displays are poignant reminders of the 1-6 struggles that Texans have endured in the past and the challenges 1-7 that we face today; and 1-8 WHEREAS, As Texas stands on the brink of a new millennium, it 1-9 is fitting that we pay tribute to the citizens who will shape the 1-10 future of Texas and of the world, and those future leaders are 1-11 today's children; a privately funded monument or exhibit in honor 1-12 of children would be an appropriate reminder to all Texans of the 1-13 important and valuable resource we have in each and every child; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, Chapter 443 of the Government Code authorizes the 1-16 State Preservation Board to preserve, maintain, and restore the 1-17 Capitol grounds, which include the Capitol, the General Land Office 1-18 Building, their contents, their grounds, and monuments and exhibits 1-19 on the grounds; now, therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 1-21 hereby direct the State Preservation Board to include in its 1-22 long-range master plan for the Capitol grounds a permanent exhibit 1-23 or monument in tribute to children; and, be it further 1-24 RESOLVED, That the monument or exhibit be totally funded by 2-1 private donations, which the State Preservation Board is authorized 2-2 to accept, and that the names of donors not be inscribed or placed 2-3 on the monument or exhibit; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That the State Preservation Board approve the 2-5 design and location of the monument or exhibit and oversee its 2-6 installation, and that the General Services Commission or any other 2-7 state agency assist the board in the planning and completion of the 2-8 monument or exhibit as requested.
