                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, In November, 1988, the Department of Energy
    1-2  announced that Ellis County, Texas, was the site selected for the
    1-3  Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The largest and most advanced particle accelerator
    1-5  ever built, the Superconducting Super Collider will be the world's
    1-6  preeminent facility for high energy physics research; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, According to early studies, spending during the
    1-8  first year of the project contributed $60.3 million directly to the
    1-9  site region economy; these figures suggest that the site region
   1-10  economy is likely to become the largest recipient of the $1.5
   1-11  billion allocated to construction contracts and the half billion
   1-12  dollars to be spent for administration and support services; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, An enormous boost to the Texas economy, the
   1-14  laboratory will employ 3,000 scientists, engineers, technicians,
   1-15  and administrative staff; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The economic promise of the Superconducting Super
   1-17  Collider is expected to prompt some key potential suppliers in
   1-18  other states to relocate to Texas, further stimulating our economy
   1-19  in years to come; now, therefore, be it
   1-20        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-21  hereby memorialize the Congress of the United States to continue
   1-22  full funding for the continued operation of the Superconducting
   1-23  Super Collider; and, be it further
    2-1        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
    2-2  and forwarded to the President of the United States, to the
    2-3  President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of
    2-4  Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all members
    2-5  of the Texas delegation to the Congress with the request that this
    2-6  resolution be officially entered in the Congressional Record as a
    2-7  memorial to the Congress of the United States of America.
