S.C.R. No. 69 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to 1-2 recognize the legal assistants of Texas and to designate every 1-3 October 23 as Texas Legal Assistants Day; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Created on October 23, 1981, the Legal Assistants 1-5 Division of the State Bar of Texas strives to foster high standards 1-6 of conduct, professional ethics, and responsibility through 1-7 continuing legal education cooperation with the state bar; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The members of the Legal Assistants Division are 1-9 diversely employed by law firms, public and private corporations, 1-10 businesses, institutions, and local, state, and national government 1-11 agencies; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The Legal Assistants Division is committed to 1-13 achieving more economical and improved legal services throughout 1-14 the state by focusing on benefits to its members and the paralegal 1-15 profession through developing opportunities, incentives, and 1-16 recognition for legal education; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Legal assistants work under the direction of an 1-18 attorney and require sufficient knowledge of legal concepts to 1-19 perform specifically delegated legal work that would otherwise be 1-20 performed by the attorney; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The legal assistants of the State of Texas are 1-22 tremendous assets to their communities and contribute substantially 1-23 to the quality and proficiency of legal services throughout the 2-1 state; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 2-3 hereby commend the legal assistants of Texas for their outstanding 2-4 work and the Legal Assistants Division of the State Bar of Texas 2-5 for its 11 years of dedication to improving legal services for the 2-6 people of Texas and hereby declare October 23 as Texas Legal 2-7 Assistants Day; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the 2-9 Legal Assistants Division of the State Bar of Texas as a token of 2-10 high regard from the Texas Legislature.
