No. 76 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to 1-2 recognize Lamont Veatch who is retiring as Executive Director of 1-3 the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals after six 1-4 years of outstanding service; and 1-5 WHEREAS, After graduating from high school in Custer City, 1-6 Oklahoma, he received his bachelor's degree from Southwestern State 1-7 University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, and his master's degree from 1-8 the University of Oklahoma; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Lamont Veatch taught school for five years in 1-10 Oklahoma before moving to Plainview in 1958; he was a junior high 1-11 school and high school principal before becoming Superintendent of 1-12 Schools in Plainview in 1979; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Executive Director of the Texas Association of 1-14 Secondary School Principals since 1987, Mr. Veatch strove to 1-15 develop quality administrative training materials and to provide 1-16 in-depth administrative training experiences in a variety of 1-17 leadership areas; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Veatch has been deeply involved in high school 1-19 and middle school restructuring conferences attended by more than 1-20 3,000 campus educators; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Through his notable leadership, membership in the 1-22 Texas Association of Secondary School Principals has increased by 1-23 11 percent; he also helped develop training materials for 2-1 site-based decision-making training for over 1,000 building 2-2 administrators; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Mr. Veatch has been active in the National 2-4 Association of Secondary School Principals and the Texas 2-5 Association of Secondary School Principals; and 2-6 WHEREAS, In his long and distinguished career, Mr. Veatch has 2-7 won many civic honors; in 1978, he was chosen Citizen of the Year 2-8 in Plainview; he was also active in the Chamber of Commerce and has 2-9 been Director, Membership Chairman, and First Vice President in 2-10 that organization; in addition, Mr. Veatch was a member, Division 2-11 Chairman, Campaign Chairman, and President for the Budget Committee 2-12 of the Plainview United Way; and 2-13 WHEREAS, This energetic and dedicated man also held life 2-14 memberships in the Texas and National Parent-Teachers Association, 2-15 was President and life member of the Texas State Teachers 2-16 Association, and was Secretary, Vice President, and President of 2-17 the Texas Association of School Administrators, District XVII; 2-18 truly this dedicated man is worthy of legislative recognition; now, 2-19 therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 2-21 hereby commend Lamont Veatch on his superb career and extend best 2-22 wishes to him for many happy retirement years; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. 2-24 Veatch as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
