                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Richard Watson alleges that the board of regents of
    1-2  The Texas A&M University System proposes to change the name of
    1-3  Texas A&I University at Kingsville; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A poll of some 30,000 ex-students of Texas A&I
    1-5  University found that 84 percent opposed the name change; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, On May 8, 1993, the board of directors of the Alumni
    1-7  Association of Texas A&I University voted unanimously to support a
    1-8  lawsuit filed by Richard Watson against the board of regents of The
    1-9  Texas A&M University System regarding the name change; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The lawsuit asks the district court in College
   1-11  Station to review the May 5, 1993, vote by the board of regents of
   1-12  The Texas A&M University System to determine whether such action
   1-13  was valid or void and no monetary damages are requested; now,
   1-14  therefore, be it
   1-15        RESOLVED by the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas, That
   1-16  Richard Watson is granted permission to sue the State of Texas and
   1-17  the board of regents of The Texas A&M University System subject to
   1-18  Chapter 107, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, as added by Chapter
   1-19  524, Acts of the 70th Legislature, Regular Session, 1987; and, be
   1-20  it further
   1-21        RESOLVED, That the board of regents of The Texas A&M
   1-22  University System be served process as provided by Subdivision (3),
   1-23  Subsection (a), Section 107.002, Civil Practice and Remedies Code,
    2-1  as added by Chapter 524, Acts of the 70th Legislature, Regular
    2-2  Session, 1987.
