S.C.R. No. 100
                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, On June 6, 1993, the citizens of Taylor will
    1-2  commemorate the 100th birthday of one of the city's most
    1-3  illustrious native sons, Governor Dan Moody; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The son of Nancy Elizabeth Robertson and Judge
    1-5  Daniel Moody, Dan Moody showed unusual promise and talent even as a
    1-6  young boy; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Hardworking and determined to succeed in all he
    1-8  undertook, Dan Moody worked in the family dairy every morning
    1-9  before school; at the age of 12, he held a job in a downtown Taylor
   1-10  coffee roasting plant; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Dan Moody graduated from The University of Texas
   1-12  School of Law in 1914 at the age of 21; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, To this day, Dan Moody is the youngest person to
   1-14  hold the offices of Williamson County Attorney, District Attorney,
   1-15  and Texas Attorney General; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Noted for his courage and integrity, Dan Moody
   1-17  successfully prosecuted the Ku Klux Klan while District Attorney,
   1-18  and as Attorney General he recovered $600,000 in funds mismanaged
   1-19  by the administration of Ma Ferguson; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, The youngest governor that Texas has ever had, Dan
   1-21  Moody was 33 when he was elected; during his campaign he married
   1-22  Mildred Paxton of Abilene; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Governor Moody served two terms; he cleaned up the
    2-1  deplorable condition into which state government had fallen and
    2-2  then entered law practice in Austin where he lived until his death
    2-3  in 1966; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, The family home in Taylor has been turned into the
    2-5  Moody Museum; its downstairs is a living museum which depicts the
    2-6  lifestyle of the Moody family at the turn of the century; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, The Moody Museum obtained a historical marker for
    2-8  the home in 1968, largely due to the efforts of Mrs. John
    2-9  Cornforth; the exterior restoration was completed and dedicated in
   2-10  December of 1986; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   2-12  hereby recognize the 100th birthday of Governor Dan Moody and join
   2-13  with the citizens of Taylor in declaring June 6, 1993, as Governor
   2-14  Dan Moody Day; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
   2-16  citizens of Taylor, Texas, as a memento of this special day.
