   1-19                        SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
   1-20  proposing a constitutional amendment providing for the expiration
   1-21  of terms of office of municipal judges.
   1-22        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
   1-23        SECTION 1.  Article XVI, Section 17, of the Texas
   1-24  Constitution is amended to read as follows:
   1-25        Sec. 17.  All officers within this State shall continue to
   1-26  perform the duties of their offices until their successors are
   1-27  <shall be> duly qualified, except that municipal court judges who
   1-28  are not reappointed shall not continue to perform the duties of
   1-29  their offices for more than 90 days after the expiration of their
   1-30  term.
   1-31        SECTION 2.  This constitutional amendment takes effect
   1-32  January 1, 1994.
   1-33        SECTION 3.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-34  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 1993.
   1-35  The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against
   1-36  the proposition:  "The constitutional amendment providing for the
   1-37  expiration of terms of office of municipal judges."
