    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize Manuel M. Davenport for his 25 years of outstanding
    1-4  service to Texas A&M University; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Director of the Department of Philosophy
    1-6  and Humanities graduate program, Dr. Davenport has ably served
    1-7  the university in many capacities; in 1967 he joined
    1-8  Texas A&M University as head of the newly established Department
    1-9  of Philosophy and Humanities and served in that position for
   1-10  10 years; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Few have given so generously of themselves to
   1-12  the welfare and progress of the university as has Dr. Davenport;
   1-13  he has been on numerous department, college, and university
   1-14  committees and has served on the Faculty Senate; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, A noted scholar, celebrated teacher, and recipient
   1-16  of outstanding teaching awards and study grants, Dr. Davenport
   1-17  has been an advisor to international student organizations, student
   1-18  literary magazines, and the liberal arts student council; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The varied and worthwhile activities of
   1-20  Dr. Davenport have spanned a wide variety of interests; he has
   1-21  been an active member of the American Civil Liberties Union, the
   1-22  Young Men's Christian Association, and the Brazos Valley Arts
   1-23  Council; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, A noted scholar, Professor Davenport is an
    2-2  expert on the place of philosophy in society, academic freedom
    2-3  and administration, and professional ethics; the remarkable
    2-4  achievements of Manuel M. Davenport will continue to contribute
    2-5  to the development of Texas A&M University in a most positive way;
    2-6  now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  73rd Legislature,hereby extend heartiest congratulations to
    2-9  Manuel M. Davenport for being honored by Texas A&M University
   2-10  for his illustrious service; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
   2-12  for Dr. Davenport as an expression of highest regard from the
   2-13  Texas Senate.
