No. 21 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Sam Darden 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the 1-6 citizens of Bandera, Texas, in mourning the loss of well-known 1-7 attorney, businessman, and community leader Sam Darden who died 1-8 December 25, 1992; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He will be remembered for his devotion to the 1-10 community, his generosity, and his love for the Texas Hill Country 1-11 and its people; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A native of Breckenridge, Texas, Sam Darden was born 1-13 on August 3, 1926; he spent his childhood in East Texas and 1-14 graduated from Judson Grove High School in Longview; and 1-15 WHEREAS, After serving his country with valor during 1-16 World War II in Germany, Mr. Darden attended Baylor 1-17 University School of Law and graduated in 1954; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The esteemed attorney moved to Bandera with his 1-19 wife, Dorothy, and became known throughout the Hill Country as a 1-20 respected criminal and civil lawyer; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Darden was recognized for his exceptional 1-22 ability and knowledge of the law and was presented to the 1-23 United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., in 1965, one of 2-1 the few Texas lawyers so honored; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Sam Darden served with distinction as 2-3 Bandera City Attorney from 1980 to 1992 and was active in the 2-4 business community as a real estate broker and developer; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The avid outdoorsman loved the tranquil beauty of 2-6 the Texas Hill Country where he spent time hunting, fishing, and 2-7 boating; his extensive travels throughout Mexico, southern 2-8 and western United States, and Hawaii afforded him 2-9 opportunity to explore those regions; and 2-10 WHEREAS, The Lions-Hudspeth City Park was established as the 2-11 result of Mr. Darden's efforts; he also donated his legal services 2-12 to establish the new regional park planned along the Medina River; 2-13 and 2-14 WHEREAS, The beloved individual leaves a legacy of 2-15 compassion and commitment that will be cherished by those who 2-16 lived and worked with him; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-18 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 2-19 of his family: his wife, Dorothy; his mother, Loyce Darden; his 2-20 daughters, Candice Muster and Sheri Grams; his son, 2-21 Terry Darden; his sister, Barbara Tyree; his brother, 2-22 Don Darden; and his grandchildren, Heather, 2-23 Alexander, Nathan, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Courtney; and, 2-24 be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-1 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from 3-2 the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it 3-3 do so in memory of Sam Darden. 3-4 _____________________________________ 3-5 President of the Senate 3-6 I hereby certify that the 3-7 above Resolution was adopted by 3-8 the Senate on January 13, 1993, 3-9 by a rising vote. 3-10 _____________________________________ 3-11 Secretary of the Senate 3-12 _____________________________________ 3-13 Member, Texas Senate
