    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to join
    1-3  with the Martin Luther King Center of Dallas in observing
    1-4  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia,
    1-6  Dr. King was destined to become one of the most influential men of
    1-7  the 20th century; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A spellbinding orator, clergyman, and 1964 Nobel
    1-9  Peace Prize winner, Dr. King inspired millions to reaffirm his
   1-10  passionate belief in nonviolence and to join his struggle for equal
   1-11  rights; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Outspoken yet eloquent, his unforgettable words
   1-13  spurred a generation of young Americans to strive for improved
   1-14  civil rights, equal educational opportunity, and economic well-being
   1-15  for all; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, From the streets of Montgomery to the Birmingham
   1-17  jail to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. King directed the
   1-18  focus of the world on the battle for human freedom and dignity; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The stirring words of Dr. King's "I have a dream..."
   1-20  speech in 1963 still evoke emotions of Americans of every race and
   1-21  creed; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Serving the needs of the poor, the neglected, and
   1-23  the elderly, the Martin Luther King Center admirably carries out
    2-1  Dr. King's message of peace and love; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Dr. King was a dedicated man of justice and
    2-3  remembrance of him on this special day affords all Texans an
    2-4  opportunity to renew their commitment to equal justice and
    2-5  opportunity for all Americans; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby pause in its deliberations to honor the
    2-8  life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and that when the
    2-9  Senate adjourns this day, it do so in his memory.
