    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                         Jay Sanford Williams
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  family and many friends of Jay Sanford Williams in mourning the
    1-7  recent loss of this distinguished sports and community leader; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Dr. Williams was educated at Texas A&M University,
    1-9  receiving both his bachelor and doctorate degrees there; he played
   1-10  second string center for the football team in the early 1940s and
   1-11  developed a lifelong love of sports; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, A resident of Bryan for the last 28 years, he was
   1-13  the City of Bryan's second director of Parks and Recreation and had
   1-14  a reputation for getting state grant money to improve the
   1-15  city's parks; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Among his many projects, Dr. Williams used grant
   1-17  money and matching city funds to redevelop Sadie Thomas Park, build
   1-18  a swimming pool at Henderson Park, and build tennis courts and a
   1-19  parking area at Tanglewood Park; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Always active in community affairs, Dr. Williams
   1-21  was instrumental in setting up distribution points for donated food;
   1-22  among his other civic activities, he was a member of the Bryan Noon
   1-23  Lions Club and later the Bryan Evening Lions Club; he had also been
    2-1  a director of the Lions Club camp for crippled children in Kerrville;
    2-2  and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Dr. Williams was well known as a football,
    2-4  basketball, and track official at the high school and college levels;
    2-5  and
    2-6        WHEREAS, His memory will remain forever in the hearts and
    2-7  minds of all who knew and cherished him; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
   2-10  of his family:  his wife, Annie Ola Boyd Williams; and his four
   2-11  children; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-13  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-14  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
   2-15  so in memory of Jay Sanford Williams.
