    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                         John R. Banister III
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Kerrville, Texas, in mourning the loss of
    1-7  John R. Banister III who died on January 13, 1993; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A native of Rocksprings, Texas, he was born in
    1-9  San Antonio, Texas, on July 5, 1920; he had lived in Kerrville
   1-10  since 1969, where he was active in the social, commercial, and
   1-11  religious life of the town; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, He attended Rocksprings schools and graduated from
   1-13  Texas A&M University with a degree in economics in 1942; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, After being commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the
   1-15  infantry, John was later transferred to field artillery as a pilot
   1-16  flying L-3, L-4, and L-5 Spotter aircraft involved in the invasions
   1-17  of North Africa in 1942, Anzio in 1943, and Southern France in 1945;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, After flying combat missions in France and Germany
   1-20  Mr. Banister received the Legion of Merit, Air Medal with three
   1-21  clusters, Italian Military Cross of Valor, Bronze Arrowhead, EAME
   1-22  Ribbon with eight Bronze Stars, American Theater Ribbon, and the
   1-23  World War II Victory Medal; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Serving at many bases in North America, John retired
    2-2  as a Colonel in the United States Army; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, After receiving a degree from The University of Texas
    2-4  School of Law, he practiced law in Austin, San Antonio, and Houston
    2-5  prior to establishing a practice in Kerrville in 1969, where he also
    2-6  served for several years as a federal magistrate; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, In devoting much of his time to the betterment of his
    2-8  community, this respected gentleman achieved recognition in his work
    2-9  with the Rotary Club of Kerrville and was active in other local and
   2-10  civic endeavors; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, A devout Methodist, he attended the Methodist Church
   2-12  of Kerrville; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, He leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment that
   2-14  will remain cherished by those who lived and worked with him; now,
   2-15  therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-17  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
   2-18  members of the late John R. Banister III:  his sisters,
   2-19  Mrs. Sue Rowley and Mrs. Sybil Jones; his brother, Bill Banister;
   2-20  his daughter, Diana Gandy; his sons, Henry Gandy and Tommey Gandy;
   2-21  and his nieces and nephews; and, be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-23  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-24  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-25  in memory of John R. Banister III.
