    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize January 27, 1993, as Prairie View A&M/Texas Anti-Litter
    1-4  Lottery Day; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A celebration is taking place in Austin at the
    1-6  Capitol on that day; the festivities will feature the
    1-7  Prairie View A&M Marching Band, which has 200 members; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The occasion of the ceremony will be the filming of
    1-9  a public service announcement that will persuade Texas citizens to
   1-10  throw used lottery tickets in the trash; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Texas lottery sales have earned the state more than
   1-12  $1 billion; the lottery has returned prizes that total $483 million;
   1-13  and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Now a world-class university, Prairie View A&M
   1-15  opened its doors on March 11, 1878, with eight students and two
   1-16  professors; the university has grown to include more than 5,000
   1-17  students and 268 full-time faculty members; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Demonstrating its excellence as a university,
   1-19  Prairie View A&M has awarded over 2,400 academic degrees in the
   1-20  last five years; this number included 800 graduate degrees; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Working to maintain superior instructors and a
   1-22  demanding curriculum, Prairie View also succeeds in nurturing the
   1-23  students' academic development as well as stimulating intellectual
    2-1  curiosity; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, The university is committed to helping individuals
    2-3  achieve their maximum potential and to teaching these individuals
    2-4  to live a meaningful and productive life; the university has met
    2-5  these goals; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, The public celebration is meant to honor
    2-7  Prairie View A&M University which is part of the second oldest
    2-8  public institution of higher education in the state; now,
    2-9  therefore, be it
