No. 102 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, It is indeed an honor for the 1-3 Senate of the State of Texas to pay tribute to 1-4 Maurice Beckham for his 36 years of distinguished 1-5 service with the Texas Department of Public Safety; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Chief of Administration in Austin since 1988, 1-7 Chief Beckham is a capable and visionary leader who has earned 1-8 the respect and admiration of his colleagues; and 1-9 WHEREAS, His notable career began in 1957 as a highway 1-10 patrol recruit, and his rapid advancement within the department 1-11 attests to his exceptional abilities; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Chief Beckham has had an extensive background 1-13 in public safety as a highway patrolman, Assistant Commander 1-14 of the Criminal Intelligence Service, Criminal Law Enforcement 1-15 Inspector, and Chief of Inspection and Planning; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The exemplary public servant has conscientiously 1-17 performed his duties with expert care and dedication; and 1-18 WHEREAS, A nationally and internationally recognized figure 1-19 in his field, Chief Beckham is active with the American Association 1-20 of Motor Vehicle Administrators, Texas Police Association, and 1-21 International Association of Chiefs of Police; and 1-22 WHEREAS, His varied activities within the department have 1-23 contributed to the advancement of the Department of Public Safety; 2-1 he is an effective instructor, speaker, author, agency liaison, 2-2 and coordinator who has freely given his time and energies to his 2-3 fellow officers and to the community at large; and 2-4 WHEREAS, A 1950 graduate of Penelope High School, 2-5 Maurice Beckham attended Baylor University, American 2-6 Technological University, Sam Houston State University, 2-7 and The University of Texas at Austin; he holds a bachelor's 2-8 degree in criminal justice with a minor in education; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Throughout his remarkable career, Chief Beckham 2-10 has been supported by the love and companionship of his gracious 2-11 wife, Peggy, and their children, Connie and Hilton; now, therefore, 2-12 be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 73rd Legislature, hereby commend Chief Maurice Beckham for 2-15 his magnificent contributions to the Department of Public Safety 2-16 and the citizens of Texas; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 2-18 as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-19 _____________________________________ 2-20 President of the Senate 2-21 I hereby certify that the 2-22 above Resolution was adopted by 2-23 the Senate on January 25, 1993. 2-24 _____________________________________ 2-25 Secretary of the Senate 3-1 _____________________________________ 3-2 Member, Texas Senate 3-3 _____________________________________ 3-4 Member, Texas Senate
