    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is privileged
    1-3  to recognize Ranvir Biki Mohindra who has been chosen to receive
    1-4  the Special Recognition Award presented by the Mickey Leland Center
    1-5  Awards Program; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Mickey Leland Center Awards Program was
    1-7  established in 1991 as a tribute to the life of Mickey Leland and
    1-8  as part of an effort to pursue his goal of eradicating hunger and
    1-9  homelessness; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Mr. Mohindra, Vice President of Technical Services
   1-11  for Riviana Foods, Incorporated, and member of the Food Bank's
   1-12  Board of Directors, has coordinated a tennis tournament sponsored
   1-13  by the Indian community of Houston to benefit the food bank; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Mr. Mohindra has served on the Food Bank's Board
   1-15  of Directors since 1989, and for three years he has worked with
   1-16  Riviana Foods to perfect the effectiveness of the food bank; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Mr. Mohindra's greatest contribution to this
   1-18  cause was the renovation of the food bank's warehouse, which
   1-19  increased the Houston Food Bank's food storage and handling
   1-20  capacities by 110 percent; he also helped make the Houston Food
   1-21  Bank one of the three largest in the nation; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, While on the Board of Directors, Mr. Mohindra has
   1-23  contributed his expertise as Chairman of the Finance Committee
    2-1  and Chairman of the Efficiency Committee, as well as serving as
    2-2  Treasurer; during this time, Riviana has emerged as one of the
    2-3  food bank's top donors; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Mr. Mohindra's corporation has donated over
    2-5  300,000 pounds of rice products to the needy in Houston and the
    2-6  25 surrounding counties; it has been honored for this service by
    2-7  receiving the Houston Food Bank's Partnership Award; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Few have given so generously of themselves to the
    2-9  welfare and progress of their community as has Mr. Mohindra; now,
   2-10  therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby honor Ranvir Biki Mohindra for his
   2-13  outstanding service to the homeless and indigent of the Houston
   2-14  area and congratulate him for earning the Special Recognition
   2-15  Award; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-17  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
