    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is privileged
    1-3  to recognize Susan R. Levy who has been selected to receive the
    1-4  Special Recognition Award presented by the Mickey Leland Center
    1-5  Awards Progam; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, These awards are given to individuals who have
    1-7  made significant contributions toward alleviating hunger and
    1-8  homelessness in Houston and its surrounding areas; Susan Levy
    1-9  has been selected as one of these people; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Few have given so generously of themselves to the
   1-11  welfare and progress of their community as has Susan Levy; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Ms. Levy and other volunteers from
   1-13  Temple Emanu El formed the task force for the Service of
   1-14  the Emergency Aid Resource Center for the Homeless (S.E.A.R.C.H.)
   1-15  because they identified the need for instant relief for the indigent
   1-16  and homeless population of Houston; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Susan Levy has served S.E.A.R.C.H. as
   1-18  Secretary of the Board of Directors, Vice President, President,
   1-19  and Chair of the Congregational Outreach and Operations Committee;
   1-20  and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A highly respected person in her field, Ms. Levy
   1-22  has served with distinction as a volunteer for this homeless
   1-23  project for over seven years; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The services offered through the S.E.A.R.C.H.
    2-2  organization have expanded greatly and now include a Resource
    2-3  Center through which the homeless may secure a hot meal while
    2-4  their other basic needs are met and they can receive information
    2-5  on social services available to them, a Job Training Program
    2-6  funded through federal programs, a licensed child care and early
    2-7  education center for homeless children, a Van Outreach Program,
    2-8  and a Transitional Housing Program which offers subsidized housing
    2-9  for up to two years for persons receiving some type of job training;
   2-10  and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Ms. Levy's selfless dedication to her community
   2-12  is an inspiration to others and has earned her the respect and
   2-13  gratitude of her associates; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-15  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Susan Levy for her remarkable
   2-16  success in her efforts to aid the indigent and homeless and
   2-17  congratulate her for earning the Special Recognition Award;
   2-18  and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-20  her as an expression of gratitude from the Texas Senate.
