1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, Rose Mary R. Badami is a recipient of the 1992
1-3 Mickey Leland Distinguished Service Award for her humanitarian
1-4 efforts on behalf of the City of Houston's less fortunate
1-5 residents; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Recognized for her signficant contributions to
1-7 alleviate hunger and homelessness in Houston and the surrounding
1-8 area, Rose Mary Badami is the founder and director of the
1-9 Magnificat House, Incorporated; and
1-10 WHEREAS, For the past 25 years she has unselfishly
1-11 devoted her time and abilities to helping homeless men, women,
1-12 and children; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Aware of the pressing need in the city for
1-14 shelter for the homeless, Rose Mary Badami opened the first
1-15 Magnificat House residence in 1968; in 1972 she founded Loaves
1-16 and Fishes Soup Kitchen; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The enterprise has grown to 10 residences and
1-18 a soup kitchen that provides from 200 to 300 meals a day,
1-19 six days a week; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Residents are able to stay at the facility as
1-21 long as necessary; during their stay, they may contact their
1-22 families and rebuild relationships; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Magnificat House provides these daily provisions
2-1 for the needy and homeless without the assistance of federal,
2-2 state, or local funds; now, therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-4 73rd Legislature, hereby commend Rose Mary R. Badami for her
2-5 benevolent work and dedication to providing food and shelter
2-6 for the impoverished; and, be it further
2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-8 for the esteemed individual as an expression of the admiration
2-9 and gratitude of the Texas Senate.
