    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize Malcolm T. McLemore for his recent selection as a
    1-4  recipient of the Mickey Leland Center Special Recognition Award;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Mickey Leland Center Awards Program was
    1-7  established in 1991 as a tribute to the life of Mickey Leland
    1-8  and as part of an effort to continue his quest to eradicate hunger
    1-9  and homelessness throughout the world; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The Mickey Leland Center Special Recognition Award
   1-11  honors those individuals who have made significant contributions
   1-12  to alleviate hunger and homelessness in Houston and the surrounding
   1-13  areas; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Since 1987, Malcolm McLemore has been an active
   1-15  leader in the effort to provide food to the needy women, children,
   1-16  and elderly of his community; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Mr. McLemore started the first successful
   1-18  Hunger Coalition Community Garden on vacant lots with limited
   1-19  help with the chores and little knowledge of gardening; he is now
   1-20  well known for his work as Coordinator of the Fourth Ward Community
   1-21  Garden and Vice-President of the Fourth Ward Food Pantry; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Under Mr. McLemore's outstanding leadership, the
   1-23  garden distributes 10,000 servings of vegetables yearly, and since
    2-1  its establishment, the pantry has provided food for over a quarter
    2-2  of a million meals; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A distinguished and exemplary gentleman,
    2-4  Malcolm McLemore is well known for his generosity and sincere
    2-5  concern for his fellowman; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Talented and hardworking, he regularly makes
    2-7  the early morning trip to the Food Bank and organizes the
    2-8  shelving of the food and its distribution; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, A man of uncommon energy and tenacity,
   2-10  Malcolm McLemore is a model to people across the state
   2-11  who desire to make changes in their communities, and his
   2-12  humanitarian efforts have proved to be invaluable to needy
   2-13  Houston area residents; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-15  73rd Legislature, hereby express appreciation to
   2-16  Malcolm T. McLemore for his remarkable success and superior
   2-17  leadership and extend congratulations to him for earning a
   2-18  Special Recognition Award; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-20  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
