    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The citizens of Port Arthur annually express
    1-3  their pride in their beloved city on Port Arthur Day, celebrated
    1-4  this year on February 1, 1993; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The community spirit in Port Arthur exhibited
    1-6  during this happy celebration is eminently justified; the
    1-7  residents of this area have made it one of the outstanding cities
    1-8  in the great State of Texas; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Port Arthur has a rich history of hard work and
   1-10  determination in overcoming a variety of obstacles, including
   1-11  freezing weather and hurricanes; today the city is the vibrant
   1-12  center of one of the world's major oil refining districts, its
   1-13  initial refineries having been constructed to serve the flow of
   1-14  the famed Spindletop field; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, This dynamic city is one of the busiest ports
   1-16  in the United States; its shipping facilities, the first of
   1-17  which were constructed in 1901, handle huge tonnages annually
   1-18  of imported oil, as well as diverse exports of chemicals,
   1-19  petroleum and paper products, wheat, and sorghum; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, The recreational attractions of Port Arthur
   1-21  and its environs include Pleasure Island, Sea Rim State Park,
   1-22  and the Gulf beaches, which are enjoyed by the residents as well
   1-23  as thousands of tourists every year; now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-2  73rd Legislature, hereby join with the citizens of Port Arthur
    2-3  in paying tribute to their city on Port Arthur Day; and, be it
    2-4  further
    2-5        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-6  the City of Port Arthur in recognition of this splendid occasion
    2-7  and as an expression of congratulations from the Texas Senate.
