    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Clearinghouse Update has won two
    1-3  Awards of Excellence in the International Association of
    1-4  Business Communicators Best of Austin Awards and Evaluation
    1-5  Competition; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The top award offered in competition, the Award
    1-7  of Excellence recognized Clearinghouse Update for its superb
    1-8  community relations and for its public service communication; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, One of the important functions of the
   1-10  Secretary of the Senate is providing current information
   1-11  to the senators regarding the status of the state between
   1-12  legislative sessions; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Begun in March, 1992, Clearinghouse Update
   1-14  is a publication that includes voluntary written contributions and
   1-15  bi-weekly issue updates and information on changes in the membership
   1-16  of state boards and commissions; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The combined efforts of the
   1-18  Secretary of the Senate, Mrs. Betty King, and her staff,
   1-19  including the Senate Research Center under the supervision
   1-20  of Julia Rathgeber, and of the Lieutenant Governor, Bob Bullock,
   1-21  and his staff have produced an informative communication instrument
   1-22  to serve the senators and citizens of our state; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The excellent cooperation among staff personnel
    2-1  was essential to the success of the publication; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, In preparing the Clearinghouse Update for
    2-3  publication, the staffs followed a stringent approval process
    2-4  to avoid misunderstanding or misstatement of Senate policy; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Prior to publication, articles were circulated
    2-6  to the Senate committees for comments and suggestions; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, A special assistant to the Lieutenant Governor and
    2-8  the Secretary of the Senate reviewed a copy of each issue; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, New in concept and format, Clearinghouse Update
   2-10  was evaluated by the publications director for the Texas Realtor
   2-11  Association who offered essential recommendations; most of the
   2-12  suggestions were incorporated in subsequent issues; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is especially
   2-14  proud to express its deep gratitude to all those responsible
   2-15  for providing the members of the Senate, state agencies, and
   2-16  the general public with a readable, accurate, and reliable
   2-17  up-to-date publication; now, therefore, be it
   2-18        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-19  73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud those who
   2-20  labored so diligently to serve the citizens of Texas; and,
   2-21  be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-23  the distinguished group as an expression of the high regard of
   2-24  the Texas Senate.
