    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
    1-3  in honoring award-winning poet and publisher Susan Bright for
    1-4  her unique works proclaiming women's place in history; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Founder and executive director of Plain View Press,
    1-6  Susan Bright has the largest feminist publishing house in the
    1-7  Southwest; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, She champions the feminine aspect of humanity
    1-9  through her press which has been publishing in the Austin
   1-10  community since 1977; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Susan has achieved creative mastery of
   1-12  her own inventive poetic style that explores history and
   1-13  the women's movement; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Her published works reflect her own personal
   1-15  statements about equal rights, child care, women's lives, peace,
   1-16  and justice; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Three of her books have won the Austin Book Award,
   1-18  including Far Side of the Word in 1986; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Together with the writers of the press,
   1-20  Susan Bright has created a national market of people who want
   1-21  books that express their ideas about feminist, New Age, women's,
   1-22  and environmental issues; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Her efforts and initiative have helped develop a
    2-1  supportive atmosphere for poets to bring their works to audiences
    2-2  composed of ordinary people who cherish the poetry which speaks of
    2-3  their own thoughts; now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  73rd Legislature, hereby recognize Susan Bright and commend
    2-6  her for her leadership in the small press movement and in the
    2-7  local poetry community; and, be it further
    2-8        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
    2-9  for her as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
