No. 127 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 join with the International Bluegrass Musicians Association in 1-4 recognizing the month of May as Bluegrass Music Appreciation Month; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, To celebrate Bluegrass Music Appreciation Month 1-7 in the State of Texas, the Central Texas Bluegrass Association 1-8 plans to hold a festival on May 8, 1993, at the Zilker Hillside 1-9 Theatre in Austin; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The origins of bluegrass music can be traced 1-11 to early Kentucky pickers; it is country music played at a rapid 1-12 tempo on unamplified stringed instruments such as banjos, guitars, 1-13 and fiddles and is characterized by free improvisations; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The Central Texas Bluegrass Association is a 1-15 nonprofit organization that promotes friendship among bluegrass 1-16 music enthusiasts and sponsors family entertainment through 1-17 workshops, festivals, and concerts; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The association's festival on May 8 will 1-19 feature local and regionally prominent bluegrass bands; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A vital part of America's musical heritage, 1-21 bluegrass music continues to be a popular art in the hearts 1-22 of country music lovers today; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 73rd Legislature, hereby recognize May of 1993 Bluegrass 2-2 Music Appreciation Month; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-4 the Central Texas Bluegrass Association with best wishes for a 2-5 joyous bluegrass festival from the Texas Senate. 2-6 _____________________________________ 2-7 President of the Senate 2-8 I hereby certify that the 2-9 above Resolution was adopted by 2-10 the Senate on February 1, 1993. 2-11 _____________________________________ 2-12 Secretary of the Senate 2-13 _____________________________________ 2-14 Member, Texas Senate
