No. 138 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 John Stricklin Bridges, Jr. 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the 1-6 family and many friends of John Stricklin Bridges, Jr., in mourning 1-7 the loss of this distinguished Texan; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A highly respected man in his community, 1-9 Mr. Bridges graduated from Auburn University in 1942 with a degree 1-10 in mechanical engineering; he went to work for Dow Chemical Company 1-11 and remained with that company until he retired; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Bridges was a charter 1-13 member of Saint Timothy Episcopal Church of Lake Jackson; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Bridges is 1-15 remembered for the affection, confidence, and loyalty he inspired 1-16 in those with whom he was associated; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Always active in civic affairs, Mr. Bridges made 1-18 notable contributions to his community; he helped found the 1-19 Republican Party in Brazoria County and was an active supporter 1-20 of the Boy Scouts of America in the 1950s and the 1960s; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Highly esteemed by his fellow citizens, 1-22 Mr. Bridges was unquestionably a man of high principles and 1-23 integrity, and his death is a profound loss for his community; 2-1 now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-3 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 2-4 of his family: his wife, Virginia Dabney Bridges; his daughter, 2-5 Emily Bridges Cluthe; his son, John Stricklin Bridges III; his 2-6 brother, Hugh Bridges; and his five grandchildren and one 2-7 great-grandchild; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-9 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 2-10 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 2-11 it do so in memory of John Stricklin Bridges, Jr. 2-12 _____________________________________ 2-13 President of the Senate 2-14 I hereby certify that the 2-15 above Resolution was adopted by 2-16 the Senate on February 3, 1993, 2-17 by a rising vote. 2-18 _____________________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate 2-20 _____________________________________ 2-21 Member, Texas Senate
