    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in recognizing Cecil B. Long for his lifetime of service
    1-4  to Bastrop County; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Well known for his devotion to the citizens of his
    1-6  community, Mr. Long has played a significant role in ensuring that
    1-7  needed improvements in the City of Bastrop were made; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Among his many achievements was the organization of
    1-9  the Bastrop Trade Day Association in the 1930s which later became
   1-10  the Chamber of Commerce; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, He has freely given his time and energies while
   1-12  making lasting contributions to the surrounding area as a member
   1-13  of the Bastrop City Council and the Volunteer Fire Department; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Residents of Bastrop since 1935, Cecil Long and his
   1-15  gracious wife, Ida Lou, first managed the Elkins' 5-10-25 store and
   1-16  later were sole proprietors of the dime stores in Bastrop, Elgin,
   1-17  and La Grange; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The longtime member of the Board of Directors of
   1-19  the Lower Colorado River Authority was appointed by
   1-20  Governor Price Daniel in 1961 and continued to serve under four
   1-21  other Texas governors; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, As chairman of the board of directors, Mr. Long was
   1-23  instrumental in securing the Gideon Steam Plant and Lake Bastrop in
    2-1  1965; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Since 1976 he has served with distinction on the
    2-3  Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Bastrop and has
    2-4  held the positions of chairman and president; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, His integrity, leadership, and sense of humor have
    2-6  been guiding forces behind the growth and prosperity of the First
    2-7  National Bank and its ability to meet the needs of area residents;
    2-8  and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Mr. Bastrop," this esteemed
   2-10  gentleman was honored when the bank's community room was renamed
   2-11  the Cecil B. Long Community Room; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Cecil B. Long for his generosity
   2-14  and exceptional community spirit; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  him as an expression of the admiration and high regard of the
   2-17  Texas Senate.
