1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas respectfully
1-3 concurs with the executive and legislative branches of the
1-4 United States government in assigning the "highest national
1-5 priority" to determining the location and status of all American
1-6 servicemen and civilians still missing from the Korean War; and
1-7 WHEREAS, There are over 8,177 American servicemen and
1-8 civilians still missing in action whose fates remain uncertain

   1-10 from Korea; and
1-11 WHEREAS, The majority of information obtained on these
1-12 missing servicemen and civilians to date has remained classified,
1-13 denying the families of these missing servicemen and civilians, as
1-14 well as the press and the American public, access to reports of
1-15 live prisoner sightings, burial sites and information, and
1-16 detainment camp locations and information; and

1-18 declassified without compromising the methods, resources, and
1-19 identities of intelligence operatives; now, therefore, be it
1-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
1-21 73rd Legislature, hereby respectfully urge the President of the
1-22 United States and the Congress of the United States to declassify
1-23 all information relating to American military personnel and
2-1 civilians who remain missing from the Korean War, except for that
2-2 information that would reveal the methods, resources, and identities
2-3 of intelligence operatives; and, be it further
2-4 RESOLVED, That any remains returned from Korea in the future
2-5 be transferred to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.,
2-6 for the purpose of identification; and that the United States
2-7 continue its current policy that diplomatic and economic relations
2-8 with North Korea be normalized only when that country has helped
2-9 make a complete accounting of the missing, whether still alive or
2-10 dead; and, be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-14 Congress, and all members of the Texas Congressional delegation
