By: Turner S.R. No. 158 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Tommy J. Lehman 1-5 WHEREAS, The citizens of Giddings, Texas, lost one of the 1-6 city's most esteemed business and civic leaders with the death of 1-7 Tommy J. Lehman on January 30, 1993, at the age of 82; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lehman was well known throughout the state 1-9 for her longtime involvement in Texas politics, and the beloved 1-10 woman's passing is profoundly felt by her family and friends; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A native of Rusk County, Mrs. Lehman was born on 1-12 October 19, 1910, to Allen and Laura Booker Jones; she married 1-13 Henry "Bud" Lehman on June 15, 1941; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Throughout her long and fruitful life she took an 1-15 active interest in the welfare and progress of Giddings and worked 1-16 diligently for needed improvements in the community; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lehman will be remembered for her invaluable 1-18 contributions to numerous civic organizations including the Giddings 1-19 Garden Club and the Lee County Heritage Society; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A member of the Presbyterian Church, she was a 1-21 devout Christian who lived her faith in her daily life while 1-22 serving her church in countless ways; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lehman supported her husband during his 20 2-1 years as a member of the Texas Legislature and took an active role 2-2 in the Legislative Wives Club; her warmth, helpfulness, and 2-3 generosity of spirit brought a sense of well-being to those around 2-4 her; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who 2-6 were privileged to share the friendship of this remarkable woman; 2-7 now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 2-10 of her family: her husband, Henry; her niece, Nancy K. Kelly; her 2-11 nephew, John J. Fleet III; and her brothers-in-law, John J. Fleet II 2-12 and Jake Jacobsen; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-14 the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from 2-15 the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do 2-16 so in memory of Tommy J.
