    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                            Thomas C. Letts
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Huntsville in mourning the loss of Thomas C. Letts
    1-7  who died November 16, 1992, at the age of 81; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A well-known educator, rancher, and farmer,
    1-9  Mr. Letts was one of the city's most esteemed residents; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The native Texan was born in El Campo on
   1-11  March 15, 1911; after receiving a bachelor of science degree
   1-12  from Sam Houston State University in 1937, he continued his studies
   1-13  at Texas A&M University, earning a master's degree and taking
   1-14  postgraduate work; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, A man of exceptional talents, Mr. Letts was a
   1-16  teacher, principal, and superintendent in the public school system
   1-17  before joining the United States War Department in 1942 as a clerk;
   1-18  from 1943 to 1946 he was a work unit conservationist with the
   1-19  United States Department of Agriculture; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, An associate professor at Sam Houston
   1-21  State University in the 1950s, Mr. Letts became an international
   1-22  education advisor with the United States Department of State and
   1-23  travelled extensively with his family in a number of countries
    2-1  before retiring in 1971; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Highly recognized for his expertise, he offered
    2-3  his talents to the National Retired Teachers Association, American
    2-4  Association of Retired Persons, and the White House Conference on
    2-5  Aging; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A faithful Christian, Mr. Letts was a member of
    2-7  First Baptist Church of Huntsville and Forest Lodge 19 A.F. & A.M.;
    2-8  and
    2-9        WHEREAS, His wise counsel and good judgment will be greatly
   2-10  missed and remembered with gratitude by those who knew him; now,
   2-11  therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to his
   2-14  bereaved family:  his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and
   2-15  R. D. Hopper; his grandson, Wade Hopper and his wife, Susan; and
   2-16  his great-grandsons, Michael Hopper and Landon Hopper; and, be it
   2-17  further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-19  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-20  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-21  in memory of Thomas C. Letts.
