    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                              Earle Long
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  family and many friends of outstanding community leader Earle Long
    1-7  in mourning the loss of this distinguished gentleman who died on
    1-8  December 30, 1992; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Born July 3, 1909, in Freestone County, Mr. Long
   1-10  was a lifelong resident of Teague; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, A true patriot, Mr. Long served his country
   1-12  loyally and faithfully in the United States Navy during World War II;
   1-13  and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Honored as an Outstanding County Senior Citizen
   1-15  in 1986, Mr. Long spent much of his time working for the good
   1-16  of his city and its citizens; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, His endeavors on behalf of his fellow citizens
   1-18  were legion; a member of the Teague Volunteer Fire Department for
   1-19  20 years, he served as fire chief for nine years; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Mayor of Teague from 1970 until 1982, Mr. Long
   1-21  helped to obtain grants to build 80 units of government housing
   1-22  for low-income families; he was also instrumental in procuring a
   1-23  grant to build the Teague Community Center and Library; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Long was a Deacon of
    2-2  the First Baptist Church and a member of the Mustard Seed Sunday
    2-3  School Class; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Outgoing and personable, Mr. Long was a member
    2-5  of the Teague Rotary Club, Teague Chapter 120 of the Boggy Masonic
    2-6  Lodge 739 A.F. & A.M., Teague Council 256, Waco Scottish Rite,
    2-7  Karem Temple, and the Eastern Star 408; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Noted for his community spirit, Mr. Long helped
    2-9  establish the Freestone Ambulance Service and served on the
   2-10  Freestone County School Board; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, His wise counsel and good judgment will be
   2-12  greatly missed and remembered with gratitude by those whose lives
   2-13  he touched; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, Throughout his life his unfailing courtesy and
   2-15  consideration for others never deserted him; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, Unquestionably a man of high principles and
   2-17  integrity, his passing is mourned by all who knew him; now,
   2-18  therefore, be it
   2-19        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-20  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to his wife
   2-21  and his nieces and nephews; and, be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-23  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-24  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
   2-25  so in memory of Earle Long.
