No. 217 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud and 1-3 pleased to recognize Emilio Navaira for his outstanding musical 1-4 contributions to his home town, his state, and his country; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Emilio Navaira's Capitol/EMI-label album, 1-6 "Unsung Highways," was recently nominated for a 1993 Grammy Award 1-7 in the Mexican-American album, vocal, or instrumental category; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Nominated for a Grammy Award in 1989, Mr. Navaira 1-9 was also nominated as Tejano Music Male Entertainer and Male 1-10 Vocalist of the Year several times; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Highly esteemed by his fellow performers, 1-12 Emilio Navaira's recent nomination shows that the music world is 1-13 beginning to consider Tejano music a legitimate art form of its own; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, The increasing popularity of native 1-16 San Antonian Emilio Navaira and his band caused Tony Lama Boots 1-17 to sign him to an exclusive three-year contract to promote Tejano 1-18 music; and 1-19 WHEREAS, As generous with his time as well as his talents 1-20 on behalf of causes close to his heart, Mr. Navaira has worked 1-21 tirelessly to benefit Santa Rosa Hospital within the Children's 1-22 Miracle Network; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Emilio and his lovely wife, Cindy, are the proud 2-1 parents of two boys, Emilio Navaira III and Diego Navaira, who are 2-2 both very proud of their father and his success; now, therefore, 2-3 be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 73rd Legislature, hereby honor Emilio Navaira and his Rio band for 2-6 being nominated for a 1993 Grammy Award; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-8 for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate with all 2-9 best wishes for continued success in the future. 2-10 _____________________________________ 2-11 President of the Senate 2-12 I hereby certify that the 2-13 above Resolution was adopted by 2-14 the Senate on February 11, 1993. 2-15 _____________________________________ 2-16 Secretary of the Senate 2-17 _____________________________________ 2-18 Member, Texas Senate 2-19 _____________________________________ 2-20 Member, Texas Senate
