    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           M. M. "Bud" Brown
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Alvin in mourning the loss of one of the city's most
    1-7  esteemed and well-loved residents, M. M. "Bud" Brown, who died
    1-8  January 29, 1993, at the age of 87; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The native Texan was born on July 14, 1905, in Dallas;
   1-10  an exceptional athlete, Bud Brown was captain of the football team at
   1-11  Forest High School and attended Southern Methodist University on a
   1-12  football scholarship; for all-around achievement he was awarded the
   1-13  Cycon Fjodr Award his senior year and won recognition as a member of
   1-14  the New York Sun All-American Football Team; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Mr. Brown attended Columbia University Law School
   1-16  before serving his country in World War II in the Army Air Corps
   1-17  where he earned the rank of lieutenant colonel; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, In 1948 Mr. Brown purchased Alvin Motor Company
   1-19  and developed one of the most impressive dealerships in the area,
   1-20  Bud Brown Ford-Toyota; selected to the National Ford Dealer Council
   1-21  in 1957, he was Area Director for the American Automobile Association
   1-22  and received the Ford Dealer District Achievement Award in 1965; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The community leader will be remembered for the
    2-1  affection, confidence, and loyalty he inspired in those with whom he
    2-2  was associated; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Throughout his long and productive life Mr. Brown took
    2-4  an interest in the welfare of others and worked diligently to uphold
    2-5  the integrity of his profession; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Active in civic organizations devoted to the
    2-7  improvement of Alvin, he founded the Little League Baseball
    2-8  Association in 1952; he ably served as president and area director
    2-9  of the Alvin Lions Club and director of the Alvin Chamber of Commerce,
   2-10  and he led drives for the United Way; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Few have given so freely of their time and energies as
   2-12  this exceptional gentleman; he was valued and loved by all who knew
   2-13  him; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, The death of such a fine citizen is felt not only
   2-15  by his family and friends but by all those who benefitted from his
   2-16  generosity and exemplary conduct; now, therefore, be it
   2-17        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-18  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
   2-19  the family of M. M. "Bud" Brown:  his wife, Helen; his sons,
   2-20  M. M. "Buster" Brown, Jr., and James Brown; his daughter,
   2-21  Joan Robertson; his sister, Jewell Pemberton; his brother,
   2-22  Walter Brown; and his eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild;
   2-23  and, be it further
   2-24        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-25  members of the family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
    3-1  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
    3-2  in memory of M. M. "Bud" Brown.
