    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Fort Bend County will sorely miss the wisdom and
    1-3  expertise of county purchasing agent John Hammett who retired
    1-4  recently; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, Mr. Hammett discharged
    1-6  his duties in an outstanding manner; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Beginning his career with the county in 1985 when
    1-8  the centralized purchasing department was created, Mr. Hammett
    1-9  utilized his talents and abilities to the utmost as he guided the
   1-10  formation of that department for the county; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Creating the department, which has six employees
   1-12  and an annual budget of $237,000, has saved the county millions
   1-13  of dollars because purchases can be made more efficiently; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, John Hammett went to work for Fort Bend County
   1-15  after retiring from 25 years of service with the United States
   1-16  Army as a logistician; he also is a retired Army Reserve officer
   1-17  and past president of the Houston Gem and Mineral Society; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Hammett has been
   1-19  strengthened and supported by his lovely wife, Ruth; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, The varied and notable achievements of
   1-21  Mr. Hammett have contributed immensely to the growth and progress
   1-22  of his county; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Noted for his honesty and integrity, Mr. Hammett
    2-1  has earned the respect of his colleagues; now, therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-3  73rd Legislature, hereby commend John Hammett for his superlative
    2-4  career of service and dedication to the people of his county and
    2-5  his state; and, be it further
    2-6        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-7  him as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate with
    2-8  best wishes for a rich and rewarding retirement.
