    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize the month of March as Kidney Awareness Month in Texas;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Central Texas Chapter of the National Kidney
    1-6  Foundation as well as other chapters throughout the state are
    1-7  planning to hold health fairs and other educational programs to
    1-8  bring kidney problems to the forefront; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The National Kidney Foundation is a nonprofit
   1-10  organization whose goal and mission is the eradication of diseases
   1-11  of the kidney and urinary tract; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The ultimate goal can be met if the kidney
   1-13  foundation achieves a series of individual goals including gaining
   1-14  adequate support for research training, fostering the continuing
   1-15  education of health care professionals, expanding and developing
   1-16  patient services and community resources, increasing the public's
   1-17  knowledge about kidney disease, monitoring health policy development,
   1-18  and increasing fund raising to allow for the continuation of present
   1-19  programs and the development of new ones; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Lay volunteers working in tandem with health
   1-21  professionals are seeking the answers to the prevention of kidney
   1-22  disease while ensuring that those who are now suffering from kidney
   1-23  disease are receiving the finest possible care; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Solutions including hemodialysis, peritoneal
    2-2  dialysis, or transplantation have been found to treat patients
    2-3  with end state renal failure only within the last 20 years; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Such important and far-reaching efforts are truly
    2-5  deserving of everyone's generous support and appreciation; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Health care professionals and volunteers of the
    2-7  National Kidney Foundation are to be commended for their superb
    2-8  work to prevent kidney diseases and to provide the most up-to-date
    2-9  medical care for patients who suffer from kidney problems; now,
   2-10  therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby recognize March, 1993, and March of each
   2-13  succeeding year as Kidney Awareness Month in Texas; and, be it
   2-14  further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  the Central Texas Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation as an
   2-17  expression of the admiration and appreciation of the Texas Senate.
