By: Haley S.R. No. 252 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Kester W. Denman, Jr. 1-5 WHEREAS, The death of Kester W. Denman, Jr., on 1-6 August 8, 1992, was greatly mourned by the residents of Lufkin; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, The well-known attorney and civic leader will be 1-9 remembered for his important contributions to the citizens of the 1-10 city; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A native of Lufkin, Mr. Denman was born on 1-12 March 14, 1917, a descendant of pioneer families of Angelina County 1-13 who were founders of the Conroe Telephone Exchange; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A 1934 graduate of Lufkin High School, Mr. Denman 1-15 attended Washington and Lee University and graduated from the 1-16 Baylor University School of Law in 1940; and 1-17 WHEREAS, He served his country with valor during World War II 1-18 as commanding officer of a PT boat and executive officer of Motor 1-19 Torpedo Boat Squadron 12 in the United States Navy in the Pacific; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Denman worked for Southwestern 1-22 Bell as an attorney for 22 years before becoming chairman of the 1-23 board and general counsel of Lufkin Conroe Communications Company 2-1 until his retirement in 1987; and 2-2 WHEREAS, In devoting much of his time to the betterment of 2-3 his community, the esteemed gentleman served with distinction as 2-4 president of the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce and the 2-5 Lufkin Lions Club; and 2-6 WHEREAS, He earned the respect and admiration of his 2-7 colleagues as a member of the Texas Association of Utility Lawyers, 2-8 the Angelina County Bar Association, and the State Bar of Texas; 2-9 and 2-10 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Denman will be 2-11 remembered for his love of his family, his friends, and the people 2-12 of his community; and 2-13 WHEREAS, His wise counsel and good judgment will be greatly 2-14 missed and cherished by those who lived and worked with him; now, 2-15 therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-17 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 2-18 of his family: his wife, Mary; his children, Kester W. Denman III, 2-19 Lynn Denman and Bill Munn, Arthur and Ellen Temple, and 2-20 Charlotte Temple; his sister, Mrs. Caledonia Denman Moore; his 2-21 brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Peyton L. and Lena Belle Denman; and 2-22 his 10 grandchildren; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-24 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-25 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 3-1 in memory of Kester W.
