    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Lieutenant Ken Goodenow of the Taylor Fire
    1-3  Department was recently selected for the Earl Malone Memorial
    1-4  Award for his contributions to the Taylor Fire Academy, and the
    1-5  Texas Senate is pleased to recognize this exceptional public
    1-6  servant; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Chosen for the prestigious award by his peers at
    1-8  the Statewide Instructor's Conference held recently,
    1-9  Lieutenant Goodenow was one of five finalists from among fire
   1-10  instructors statewide; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, His distinguished record of public service as a
   1-12  member of the Taylor Fire Department over the past 12 years has
   1-13  been marked by his diligence and dedication to his duties; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Started two years ago in conjunction with Austin
   1-15  Community College, the Taylor Fire Academy has enjoyed tremendous
   1-16  growth and success; the 14-week class offers basic fire suppression
   1-17  training and certification for either emergency medical technician
   1-18  or emergency care attendant; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, A high percentage of calls received by fire
   1-20  departments are medical, and individuals with both firefighter
   1-21  and emergency medical training are needed; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Lieutenant Goodenow holds an intermediate
   1-23  instructor's certification and has ably served on the state
    2-1  testing commission for over three years; his appointment to
    2-2  the commission came when the Texas Legislature mandated the
    2-3  commission to develop a statewide examination for firefighters
    2-4  and he has been reappointed each succeeding year; now, therefore,
    2-5  be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Lieutenant Ken Goodenow
    2-8  for his magnificent work and express sincere appreciation to him for
    2-9  his tireless efforts on behalf of his community and the
   2-10  State of Texas; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  the esteemed fire instructor as an expression of the high regard
   2-13  of the Texas Senate.
