    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize Alletta R. Thompson for her selection as the 1992 Woman
    1-4  of the Year by the Quota Club of Port Arthur; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A native of Oklahoma, Mrs. Thompson moved to
    1-6  Groves, Texas, in 1962 when she and her husband purchased a grocery
    1-7  store they called Bruce's; the store evolved into the current chain
    1-8  of Market Basket stores which are well known throughout southeast
    1-9  Texas and southwest Louisiana; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, A highly successful businesswoman, Alletta Thompson
   1-11  has remained active in the management of the chain store and has
   1-12  played a major role in its growth; she has served as advisor in
   1-13  consumer relations since the store's beginning and as corporate
   1-14  secretary for the last nine years; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, A humanitarian and community leader, Mrs. Thompson
   1-16  has devoted time and energy to numerous organizations, particularly
   1-17  the Samaritan Counseling Center; she has served on the center's
   1-18  board since 1987 and works extensively on all the fundraising
   1-19  events, including the annual auction and golf tournament; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, An exceptionally talented individual with a generous
   1-21  nature, Mrs. Thompson often makes anonymous contributions to
   1-22  community projects, and it is well known that many events have
   1-23  received their much needed support through the Market Basket
    2-1  corporate offices; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson is an active member of First United
    2-3  Methodist Church of Port Neches where she recently chaired the 1992
    2-4  Fundraising Bazaar; she is also a member of the Promises Circle at
    2-5  the church; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson is a woman of wisdom, integrity, and
    2-7  uncommon selflessness whose contributions to her community and the
    2-8  State of Texas have made her truly a treasured citizen; now,
    2-9  therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-11  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Alletta Thompson for her
   2-12  dedication to her work and to helping others; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
   2-14  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
