No. 319 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to honor 1-3 the many independent community banks of Texas and the significant 1-4 contributions that they have made to the growth and prosperity of 1-5 their communities; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Community banks have presently invested in excess 1-7 of $37 billion in agricultural, commercial, and residential loans 1-8 to benefit Texas citizens; through their ongoing support of local 1-9 economies, community banks have greatly enhanced the quality of 1-10 life for immeasurable numbers of Texas citizens, and they are 1-11 indeed deserving of special recognition and high praise for their 1-12 contributions; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of 1-14 community banks, these fine institutions have been a stabilizing 1-15 influence in the development of the state; and 1-16 WHEREAS, There are more than 1,000 locally owned and 1-17 operated independent banks in Texas, with over 2,000 banking 1-18 offices located in small towns, rural areas, suburbs, and cities 1-19 throughout Texas; all together, these banks represent more than 1-20 $79 billion in assets; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The community banks in Texas have 105,000 1-22 shareholders and more than 5.25 million account holders across 1-23 the state; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 73rd Legislature, hereby commend the independent community banks 2-3 and officially recognize October 11, 1993, through October 15, 1993, 2-4 and September 26, 1994, through September 30, 1994, as Community 2-5 Banking Week in Texas in recognition of the important contributions 2-6 made by community banks to this state; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as 2-8 an expression of sincere appreciation from the Texas Senate. 2-9 _____________________________________ 2-10 President of the Senate 2-11 I hereby certify that the 2-12 above Resolution was adopted by 2-13 the Senate on February 24, 1993. 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 Secretary of the Senate 2-16 _____________________________________ 2-17 Member, Texas Senate
