No. 322 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased 1-3 to congratulate Robert Rodriguez, whose film, "El Mariachi," 1-4 won the Audience Award for the feature film category at the 1-5 recent Sundance Film Festival in Utah and the Berlin Out of 1-6 Country Award for Best Picture; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The Audience Award is presented to a film based 1-8 on a vote by the festival's 5,000 filmgoers; it is generally 1-9 agreed that receiving this award means that a film will do 1-10 well commercially; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A respected artist, Mr. Rodriguez and his friends 1-12 made this intriguing film for only $7,000; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Full of artistic merit, this finely crafted film 1-14 tells the story of a mariachi musician who is the victim of 1-15 mistaken identity in a Mexican border town; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Originally produced for the Spanish video market, 1-17 "El Mariachi" came to the attention of Columbia Picture Company; 1-18 impressed with Mr. Rodriguez's talent, Columbia signed him for a 1-19 two-year, two-picture development deal; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez has expressed the hope that his 1-21 success would inspire others to make their own films, no matter 1-22 what the cost; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Robert Rodriguez 2-2 and congratulate him on winning the prestigious Audience Award 2-3 of the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin Out of Country Award; 2-4 and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-6 Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-7 _____________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the 2-10 above Resolution was adopted by 2-11 the Senate on February 25, 1993. 2-12 _____________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
