    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize Elisabet Ney Elementary School of Lake Jackson, Texas,
    1-4  on the grand occasion of its 50th anniversary which is being
    1-5  celebrated in February of 1993; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Elisabet Ney Elementary School was established in
    1-7  1943 as the city's first public school, Lake Jackson School, and
    1-8  later became Lake Jackson Primary School after the 1944
    1-9  consolidation of Lake Jackson, Clute, Freeport, and Velasco
   1-10  schools; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, In 1961, the school was renamed in honor of
   1-12  Elisabet Ney, Texas' outstanding sculptress, who initiated the
   1-13  teaching of art in the state's public schools; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, In the last 50 years, the school has grown from 36
   1-15  students and three teachers in 1943 to 833 students and 60 staff
   1-16  members in 1993; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, For the past 21 years the school has benefitted from
   1-18  the wise leadership of its principal, Allen Lea, and is widely
   1-19  recognized as a first-rate institution with a sound academic
   1-20  curriculum; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The school has consistently aimed at providing
   1-22  resources, programs, and experiences that would inspire excellence
   1-23  in student performance and has been selected by the Governor's
    2-1  Committee for Educational Excellence for an Exemplary Performance
    2-2  Award; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The celebration of Elisabet Ney Elementary School's
    2-4  50th anniversary is an opportunity for all who have attended the
    2-5  school to express gratitude for the high standards the school
    2-6  upholds and for the excellent educational opportunities it
    2-7  provides; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Elisabet Ney Elementary School
   2-10  for its eminent success and extend best wishes to all associated
   2-11  with the school for a joyous 50th anniversary; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-13  school as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
