No. 325 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is especially pleased 1-3 to welcome members of the Texas Federation of Republican Women to the 1-4 State Capitol on April 14, 1993; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Organized 17 years after the formation of the 1-6 National Federation of Republican Women in 1938, the Texas Federation 1-7 of Republican Women met the requirement for federating a state 1-8 organization with clubs in 75 percent of the state's congressional 1-9 districts in 1955; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In October, 1955, more than 300 delegates 1-11 met in the White Plaza Hotel in San Antonio for an organizational 1-12 convention presided over by Mrs. Malcolm Milburn of Austin; 1-13 Mrs. R. D. O'Callaghan of San Antonio was elected the first president 1-14 of the new federation; and 1-15 WHEREAS, After changing the name to Texas Federation of 1-16 Republican Women, members used funds donated by the first Executive 1-17 Committee to mail the first letter to member clubs and print the 1-18 federation's first stationery; and 1-19 WHEREAS, To finance the operation of the Texas Federation of 1-20 Republican Women and to contribute funds to the Republican Party, 1-21 the Pink Elephant project was established; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Under its excellent leadership, the federation opened 1-23 offices in Austin and began publication of the Partyline, the 2-1 federation newsletter; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Biennial conventions have been held in major 2-3 cities throughout the state since 1957; today there are 184 clubs 2-4 in Texas with approximately 10,000 members; it is the second largest 2-5 state federation in the National Federation of Republican Women; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Members have worked diligently to educate women in 2-7 local and state politics and have generously volunteered their time 2-8 and energy to the campaigns of Republican Party candidates; and 2-9 WHEREAS, In 1992 alone, members of the Texas Federation of 2-10 Republican Women donated over 375,000 hours to political activities; 2-11 and 2-12 WHEREAS, The exceptional contributions of the Texas 2-13 Federation of Republican Women to state and national Republican 2-14 leaders have strengthened the development of a two-party system 2-15 in the State of Texas and increased the stature of the Republican 2-16 Party throughout the nation; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Under the able guidance of its dedicated officers, 2-18 the Texas Federation of Republican Women will continue to serve an 2-19 important leadership role in the Republican Party; now, therefore, 2-20 be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-22 73rd Legislature, hereby recognize the members of the Texas 2-23 Federation of Republican Women and commend their exceptional 2-24 contributions to the political process in Texas; and, be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them 3-1 as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 3-2 _____________________________________ 3-3 President of the Senate 3-4 I hereby certify that the 3-5 above Resolution was adopted by 3-6 the Senate on February 25, 1993. 3-7 _____________________________________ 3-8 Secretary of the Senate 3-9 _____________________________________ 3-10 Member, Texas Senate
