By: Turner S.R. No. 341 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 George H. Springer 1-5 WHEREAS, The death of George H. Springer of Montalba on 1-6 February 13, 1993, represented a great personal loss to his loved 1-7 ones and many friends throughout the State of Texas; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born June 5, 1923, in Midlothian, Texas, to 1-9 George Aubrey and Minnie Mae Ramer Springer, Mr. Springer earned 1-10 his bachelor of music degree from Southern Methodist University 1-11 and his master of music degree from Emporia State University; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A man whose life was devoted to his music, 1-13 Mr. Springer performed in his high school band, the 144th Infantry 1-14 Band, Texas Defense Guard Band, American Legion Band, the 1-15 Southern Methodist University Band, and the Emporia State University 1-16 Band; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A man who was honored to serve his country, 1-18 Mr. Springer was a pilot in the United States Navy in World War II; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Springer actively 1-21 practiced his faith as a member of the United Methodist Church 1-22 in Montalba; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Springer learned instrument repair from 2-1 J. R. Kilpatrick, maker of Kilpatrick flutes and piccolos; 2-2 George Springer owned Springer Music Service in Dallas and later 2-3 in Montalba; and 2-4 WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman also authored 2-5 two books on maintenance and repair of band instruments; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Highly esteemed by his colleagues, George Springer 2-7 was a band director for 13 years for schools in Highland Park, 2-8 Dallas, Palestine, and Brownsboro; and 2-9 WHEREAS, This illustrious civic leader served for six years 2-10 as Associate Director of Pageantry for the Cotton Bowl and spent 2-11 five years as Associate Director of Pageantry at the State Fair 2-12 of Texas; he was employed for seven years as a university repair 2-13 technician, high school band clinician, and contest adjudicator 2-14 in Dallas; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Always active in professional organizations, 2-16 George Springer was a member of the National Association of 2-17 Musical Repair Technicians, Texas Musical Educators Association, 2-18 National Education Association, Texas State Teachers Association, 2-19 Texas Classroom Teachers Association, and the Texas Band Masters 2-20 Association; and 2-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Springer's wise counsel and good judgment will 2-22 be greatly missed and remembered with gratitude by those whose lives 2-23 he touched; and 2-24 WHEREAS, Rich in the wisdom of his years, George Springer 2-25 was unquestionably a man of high principles and integrity; his 3-1 passing is mourned by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it 3-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-3 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 3-4 of his family: his wife, Ruth; his brother, Buford Springer; and 3-5 his sister, May Ruth Jackson; and, be it further 3-6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-7 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 3-8 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 3-9 it do so in memory of George H.
