    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                             Sam Standley
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Madisonville, Texas, in mourning the loss of retired
    1-7  dairyman and rancher Sam Standley who died February 12, 1993, at
    1-8  the age of 88; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Born on March 23, 1904, Mr. Standley was a lifelong
   1-10  resident of the city and one of Madisonville's most esteemed and
   1-11  beloved citizens; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The highly respected businessman and community
   1-13  leader was the owner and operator of Standley Locker Plant and
   1-14  Planters Gin and Feed Store; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, He was admired for his devotion to the residents of
   1-16  Madisonville and for his contributions to its development; many
   1-17  civic and sports programs benefitted from his generosity; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Recognized for his dedicated service to others,
   1-19  Mr. Standley was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the
   1-20  Madison County Chamber of Commerce in 1990 and was honored with
   1-21  a lifetime membership in the Chamber of Commerce; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A caring and giving individual who practiced his
   1-23  faith in his daily life, Mr. Standley was a member of the First
    2-1  United Methodist Church; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, His wise counsel and good judgment will be greatly
    2-3  missed and remembered with gratitude by those who knew him; now,
    2-4  therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  73rd Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to his
    2-7  bereaved family:  his wife, Maxine; his daughters, Maurine Wilson
    2-8  and Jo Lewis; his brother, P. M. Standley; and his 10 grandchildren
    2-9  and 14 great-grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-11  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-12  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-13  in memory of Sam Standley.
