1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 In Memory
1-3 of
1-4 Floyd Brooks
1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
1-6 citizens of Teague in mourning the loss of Floyd Brooks who died
1-7 recently at the age of 77; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Born March 29, 1915, Floyd Brooks was dedicated to
1-9 his work with the railroad and the City of Teague until his
1-10 retirement; and
1-11 WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years,
1-12 Rebecca Bean Brooks, who died August 16, 1991; and
1-13 WHEREAS, The last surviving originator of the "Brooks Family
1-14 Reunion," he was honored with a plaque in 1992 for being the only
1-15 family member to attend the reunion for 50 consecutive years and
1-16 for serving as its president for 19 years, longer than any other
1-17 family member; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Respected in the community for his many
1-19 accomplishments, Floyd Brooks was an exemplary gentleman; and
1-20 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
1-21 gave unselfishly of his time to others; and
1-22 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Brooks was a member of the
1-23 First Baptist Church of Teague; and
2-1 WHEREAS, His wisdom, warm spirit, and valued counsel will not
2-2 be forgotten by those who knew him; and
2-3 WHEREAS, Floyd Brooks was a devoted husband, father, and
2-4 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
2-5 forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-7 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
2-8 family of Floyd Brooks: his daughters, Rosemarie Rowls,
2-9 Gwendolyn Carter, Jean Brooks, Peggie Harkless, Iris Jean Simmons,
2-10 Vera Gilmore, and Degie Graves; his sons, Floyd Brooks, Jr.,
2-11 Ishemal Brooks, and David Brooks; his sister, Lillie Porter; his
2-12 brother, Luscious Brooks; and his 14 grandchildren and
2-13 10 great-grandchildren; and, be it further
2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-15 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-16 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-17 in memory of Floyd Brooks.
