No. 345 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride 1-3 in recognizing Chase and Tony Ward for their exemplary actions on 1-4 January 25, 1993; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Honored as heroes by their classmates and the 1-6 Navasota Fire Department for saving the life of a six-year-old 1-7 girl, the two nine-year-olds are in the fourth grade in the 1-8 Navasota Independent School District; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Chase and Tony have been credited with saving Tony's 1-10 sister, Amber, whose clothing caught fire while the children were 1-11 playing in front of their father's Plantersville home; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The two boys, who are cousins, chased down the young 1-13 girl and used the "drop and roll," a lifesaving technique they had 1-14 learned in second-grade safety classes, to extinguish the flames; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Without the boys' quick-thinking and responsible 1-16 action, Amber's burns would have been far greater and possibly 1-17 fatal; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The boys were recognized with plaques and a public 1-19 ceremony at the John C. Webb Middle School cafetorium for their 1-20 fire safety knowledge; and 1-21 WHEREAS, In responding to this emergency situation, Chase and 1-22 Tony Ward exhibited poise and bravery in difficult circumstances, 1-23 and they truly deserve praise for this courageous deed; now, 2-1 therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-3 73rd Legislature, hereby commend Chase Ward and Tony Ward for their 2-4 valiant and successful efforts at saving a child from fire; and, be 2-5 it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for them 2-7 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-8 _____________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the 2-11 above Resolution was adopted by 2-12 the Senate on March 1, 1993. 2-13 _____________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 _____________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
