1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
1-3 residents of Tarrant County in declaring March 1, 1993, as
1-4 Tarrant County Day; and
1-5 WHEREAS, A county of rural charm and natural beauty,
1-6 Tarrant County is a popular area for vacationing and its cities
1-7 are well known for their museums and the preservation of historic
1-8 sites; and
1-9 WHEREAS, The inspiring flavor of the Old West is found in
1-10 the ranch lands, museums, art, and recreational centers in Tarrant
1-11 County; and
1-12 WHEREAS, The county is home to some of the state's most
1-13 outstanding cultural attractions including the Amon G. Carter
1-14 Museum of Western Art, the Kimball Art Museum, the Museum of
1-15 Modern Art, and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Known to many as "Where the West Begins,"
1-17 Tarrant County is famous for its tourism centers such as the
1-18 Fort Worth Stockyards, the Botanic Garden, the Fort Worth Zoo,
1-19 and the nationally known Six Flags Over Texas; and
1-20 WHEREAS, The fourth most populous county in Texas,
1-21 Tarrant County consists of 861 square miles and has a 1992
1-22 population estimate of 1,187,835; the county was created in 1849
1-23 and was named for General Edward H. Tarrant; and
2-1 WHEREAS, The county seat, Fort Worth, is culturally one of
2-2 Texas' major cities and has a network of vast green parks and
2-3 surrounding lakes; the city's Amon G. Carter Museum contains a
2-4 fabulous collection of western art featuring permanent collections
2-5 of Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell; and
2-6 WHEREAS, Headquartered in the county are such corporate
2-7 giants as Tandy Corporation/Radio Shack, American Airlines,
2-8 Burlington Northern, and Alcon; and
2-9 WHEREAS, The residents of Tarrant County are friendly and
2-10 hospitable and have taken care to preserve the amenities of their
2-11 county during urban growth and industrial development; now,
2-12 therefore, be it
2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-14 73rd Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people of
2-15 Tarrant County and extend best wishes to them for a joyous
2-16 Tarrant County Day; and, be it further
2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-18 the residents of Tarrant County as a token of esteem from the
2-19 Texas Senate.
