No. 355 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes special 1-3 pleasure in honoring the Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department 1-4 on the grand occasion of its 50th anniversary; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Protecting life and ensuring safety are important 1-6 responsibilities of local governments and are duties performed 1-7 daily by dedicated public servants; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The individuals who hold these jobs and contribute 1-9 to the health and safety of all citizens are the unsung heroes of 1-10 their communities; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The City of Lake Jackson was founded in Southern 1-12 Brazoria County in 1943, and the organizational meeting of the 1-13 Volunteer Fire Department was held on March 4; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The oldest service organization in the city, the 1-15 fire department was established when a group of citizens concerned 1-16 about the possibility of fires and other emergencies decided to 1-17 provide for whatever emergencies might arise; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Fortunately there were only a few calls in 1-19 Lake Jackson that first year; today, however, the fire department 1-20 responds to over 1,000 emergency calls each year; and 1-21 WHEREAS, In 1943 the department had one fire truck donated 1-22 by Dow Chemical Company and seven firefighters; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The fire department expanded its services in 1952 2-1 to include emergency medical services and presently is equipped 2-2 with two ambulances and 12 fire trucks with a crew of 36 active 2-3 members; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Hundreds of volunteer firefighters have performed 2-5 meritorious work and exhibited exemplary dedication to the citizens 2-6 of Lake Jackson over the past 50 years, earning the admiration and 2-7 respect of the residents of the area; and 2-8 WHEREAS, They have handled their responsibilities with 2-9 efficiency and professionalism while conscientiously serving their 2-10 city; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the members of the 2-13 Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, both past and present, who 2-14 have distinguished themselves as highly capable men and women who 2-15 have won the appreciation of the residents of the 2-16 City of Lake Jackson; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-18 the Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department as a tribute to its 2-19 50 years of exceptional service. 2-20 _____________________________________ 2-21 President of the Senate 2-22 I hereby certify that the 2-23 above Resolution was adopted by 2-24 the Senate on March 1, 1993. 2-25 _____________________________________ 3-1 Secretary of the Senate 3-2 _____________________________________ 3-3 Member, Texas Senate
