    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Gordon I. Theilen
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with
    1-6  the citizens of Palestine, Texas, in mourning the loss of
    1-7  Gordon I. Theilen who died on January 30, 1993; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, To all who knew and admired him, Mr. Theilen will
    1-9  be remembered for his ever-abiding love of God, his family and
   1-10  friends, and his community; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The son of George B. and Anna Mae Darby Theilen,
   1-12  Gordon Theilen was born in Dallas on November 10, 1927, and
   1-13  had lived in Palestine since 1960 when he became co-owner of
   1-14  Conard-Theilen Motors with his friend and longtime business
   1-15  associate, Charles Conard; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Mr. Theilen served his country with valor
   1-17  as a young man during World War II in the United States Navy;
   1-18  he earned a bachelor of business administration degree from
   1-19  the University of North Texas; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, A dedicated Christian layman, Mr. Theilen was a
   1-21  member of the First United Methodist Church of Palestine and the
   1-22  Sharon Temple of Tyler; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, He took an active interest in civic organizations
    2-1  devoted to the improvement of Palestine, including the Rotary Club
    2-2  and the Palestine Chamber of Commerce; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A devoted family man and friend, Mr. Theilen was
    2-4  a sports enthusiast who played golf with his wife and loved to
    2-5  water ski and fish; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and
    2-7  commitment that will be remembered with gratitude by all those
    2-8  with whom he was associated; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-11  family of Gordon I. Theilen:  his wife, Lavelle; his son, Tim;
   2-12  his brother, Bernard; and his grandson; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-14  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
   2-15  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
   2-16  day, it do so in memory of Gordon I. Theilen.
