By: Turner S.R. No. 362 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 recognize the volunteers, faculty, and staff of South Knoll 1-4 Elementary School of College Station for receiving the Outstanding 1-5 Campus Volunteer Award for Small Districts from the Texas 1-6 Association for Partners in Education on February 5, 1993; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The administrators of this noteworthy school are 1-8 quite proud of their school's achievements and credit this remarkable 1-9 accomplishment to their school's highly successful volunteer program; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, This volunteer program began with 14 volunteers who 1-12 donated 500 hours of service; last year, 337 volunteers contributed 1-13 9,525 hours of service; by the end of the fall semester, 300 1-14 volunteers had worked 6,500 hours; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Providing a quality environment for the school's 1-16 students, the volunteers are highly motivated and are able to give 1-17 each child individual attention; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The volunteers whose services benefit the school 1-19 are enlisted from different sources including parents, business 1-20 people, retirees, Texas A&M students, professors, and other community 1-21 activists by Becky Eden, the campus's representative to the district 1-22 volunteer advisory board, and teams of parents; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Principal Brad Lancaster credits the success of 2-1 the program to Ms. Eden; because of the large numbers of volunteers 2-2 who work with students on an individual basis, scheduling the 2-3 volunteers is a formidable task and one which Ms. Eden handles 2-4 quite ably; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Encouraged by the devoted one-on-one adult attention, 2-6 many of the pupils at this school visibly bloom as a result of the 2-7 warmth and support shown to them; and 2-8 WHEREAS, In addition to the academic help provided them, 2-9 many of the children receive Big Brothers or Big Sisters from the 2-10 student body at Texas A&M University; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The self-esteem of the children in the program has 2-12 risen markedly; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate the volunteers, faculty, and 2-15 staff of South Knoll Elementary School on their much deserved 2-16 recognition; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-18 the school as an expression of great esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-19 _____________________________________ 2-20 President of the Senate 2-21 I hereby certify that the 2-22 above Resolution was adopted by 2-23 the Senate on March 2, 1993. 2-24 _____________________________________ 2-25 Secretary of the Senate 3-1 _____________________________________ 3-2 Member, Texas Senate
